Ramia Boersma Scholarship


SOUTH DAKOTA EDUCATION ASSOCIATION/NEA RAMIA BOERSMA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The South Dakota Education Association/NEA awards scholarships to outstanding students who are planning on entering the teaching profession . The Association may annually award up to three $750 scholarships for each academic year.

HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS

Four-Year Scholarship

Criteria for application requires that the student must:

  1. Be the daughter or son of an active or retired SDEA/NEA member.
  2. Be in the top quarter of his/her class as of January, 2012.
  3. Be a student in a South Dakota public education institution.
  4. Be accepted and/or enrolled in a South Dakota college or university.

The following attachments must be included with the application form:
  1. A copy of high school transcript.
  2. A listing of the academic and extra-curricular activities.
  3. Letters of recommendation from at least two teachers and one administrator.
  4. A 300-500 word essay on the strengths and skills the applicant will bring to the field of education.

COLLEGE SOPHOMORES

Two-year scholarship

Criteria for application requires that the student must:

  1. Be completing the sophomore year of college and enrolled in a teacher prep program.
  2. Be the daughter or son of an active or retired SDEA/NEA member.
  3. Be a full-time student.
  4. Have at least a 3.0 grade point average.
  5. Maintain membership in SDEA/NEA Student Program.

The following attachments must be included with the application form:
  1. A copy of the applicant's college transcript.
  2. A listing of academic and extracurricular activities.
  3. Letters of recommendation from at least three instructors.
  4. A 300-500 word essay on the strengths and skills the applicant will bring to the field of education.

A recipient of the scholarship will have the award extended for another academic year provided that he or she has:
  1. Been a full-time student in a teacher preparation program in a South Dakota college or university.
  2. Maintained at least a 3.0 grade point average.
  3. Maintained membership in South Dakota/NEA Student Program.
