State aid to education must be a priority for lawmakers to ensure that school districts have the necessary resources to meet the needs of all students and allow them to thrive.

Record budget surpluses have been recorded at the end of the last two years and schools have received funding increases above that exceeded the formula. Yet, despite this, the school district continues to make budget cuts and operate on shoe-string budgets.

State lawmakers must prioritize that the state’s funding formula for k-12 education meets the needs of all school districts in South Dakota by prioritizing education funding. History shows that when lawmakers invest in schools our students and educators benefit.
